300 up-and-coming producers gathered for the Young Beef Producers Forum, here's a wrap up of the event.
We recently had the pleasure of visiting Roma, a rural town in the Maranoa region in Queensland, Australia for the annual Young Beef Producers Forum. Held over two days, it included a program and fellow exhibitors who inspired the next generation of Aussie farmers. Here are our observations from the event:
Climate change is our next biggest challenge
Climate change was a major reference in key conversations, with the focus being on its impact on beef producers and supply chain. Similarly, attendees had the opportunity to observe how sustainable practices can be introduced on-farm through case studies. Hence, attendees were treated to a case study featuring Lachlan Hughes Foundation scholars, Emma and Joel Muirhead. In it, the Muirheads presented an insightful tour into the running of their two properties: Twin Hills and Telemark near Mundubbera, based on regenerative agriculture.
Build resilience when times are good
Furthermore, Luke Bowen, Deputy Chief Executive at the Department of Industry Tourism and Trade, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biosecurity, urged the young farmers to focus on “humility and innovation, versus hubris”. Consequently, he reminded them of the ramifications of the live export ban and how it unfolded. Equally important, he believed that continuous improvement is the key, “If it’s not right, you have to fix it.”
The future is bright
The young farmers were curious about MaiaGrazing. Therefore, we shared its benefits and its role in supporting producers make strategic decisions. Some of them were already running their own cattle companies while others are next in line to manage their family business. Nonetheless, they mostly agreed that there are challenges in running a farm “the old way”. As a result, they were open to innovations such as our planned grazing solution.
You can lead your family business with confidence. Ask for a MaiaGrazing product demonstration:
